HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Brandy always wants to playIt's been very cold the past two days, so I didn't walk Brandy. David walked her for me instead (he goes in the evening). I'm very grateful! I don't like going out in anything lower than 50 degrees if I can help it. It's been in the teens and 20's at night, and in the 30's during the day. It's supposed to get gradually warmer and be in the 50's by next weekend. I just wish it would snow if it's going to be this cold.

This is Brandy's third day in a row of not having an accident. I've been keeping an eye on her and making sure she goes out regularly, so it seems to be working again.  You may recall that I did this back in the Fall, and she was mostly house broken. So much so that I thought to myself, "Wow, that was so easy. I can't believe I was so worried about that."  But then she was in the kennel for two weeks, and got fixed, and when she came home, she peed on the rug again. She remembered to scratch at the door to be let out, and she pooped outside still, but she would pee on the rug in the living room once or twice a day. I was so busy with school that I didn't have the time or energy to keep track of when she was going out.  Finally we have re-trained her again, and I hope it sticks this time!

It was too cold, so I slept in really late in the afternoon. It seems to take me a long time to wake up nowadays. I need to start drinking coffee or something.

saladI've been trying to be more careful about what I eat, but it's been hard because there's a lot of chocolate in the house.

I managed to put away the laundry and finish up the dishes today, so that was kind of productive. I've been doing a little work on my site, too.

We took down all of the outdoor Christmas decorations. I need to take down the rest and then box it all up again. UGH. Then I need to get the place cleaned again.

We got a few groceries again and I had McDonald's for dinner.  There's just so much more to do! I wish I had more time and energy. I go back to school in a week and a half. I know the time will go very fast.

I've been watching "General Hospital" on my DVR. I've made it to October, 2016!

We heard a lot of fireworks the past two nights. I hope that's the end of them! Thankfully, they don't scare Brandy.  She's been climbing up in my lap a lot lately, and it's just so cute! Makes it hard to work on my laptop, though. She's best when she's being so sweet.

Can Winter be over now? I'm already sick of the cold...hot chocolate

Poor David had to go back to work today! I know it's tough, but he was also looking forward to getting back to it.  I have to go back a week from tomorrow. Not looking forward to it! Especially in this weather. It's been in the teens during the night, and in the 20's or 30's during the day.

Brandy and I have just been hanging out. She slept on my lap for quite a while today.  Eventually she hears a noise or something and jumps off to investigate, if I don't get up to go to the bathroom or something before that.

I did more dishes and put most of the laundry away, so that's something!

I've been pretty lazy since we got back. I need to stop doing that! I wake up, and then I go back to sleep. It's cold, and I don't want to get out of bed. I need to try something different.

I was a little down-in-the-dumps today because of how much I have to do...feeling overwhelmed and fat! I have to take down all the rest of the decorations, box them up, put them in the garage, put the rest of the laundry away, wash more clothes and dishes, do more work on my site, train Brandy...there's a long list. I feel particularly discouraged about Brandy because she just takes so much time and energy than I seem to have. Part of this is coming from my blood sugar, which has been too high, making me sleepy all the time.

I had been doing a pretty good job of watching Brandy and keeping her from peeing on the rug, but things got away from me this evening....I will have to work on that more.

We watched some comedy DVD's, and some stand-up comedy on Netflix, so that got me in a slightly more cheery mood! I had some hot chocolate, too. I ended up going to bed pretty early, around midnight.

I had some strange William-Shatner-related drama this week! Back in July, he had posted in his Facebook group, asking for Christmas song suggestions because he was coming out with a Christmas album, so I suggested "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," since that one is pretty easy to sing, and it's fun. Then December 26 he said "thank you" to that. I was a bit thrilled because he's my favorite actor and because I haven't ever gotten him to reply to me before. Yes, it's probably not "him," just his social media person, but still!  Anyway, this past Sunday, he said "hello" to me on Messenger, so I was even more thrilled. I said "Good aftenroon" back and then he replied, "Just wanted to appreciate few of my fans who always comment on my official page post and your name kept surfacing. Thanks for being a huge fan."  Now, I figured he probably had this message sent to all of his Facebook fans, but still, that was very nice.  The person continued on to ask me about whether I'd joined his fan club and how long I'd been a fan, etc. These were all perfectly reasonable things that his social media person might ask.

I was slightly suspicious, though, so I went to his website and clicked on "Facebook Group," which sent me to This Facebook group which is different than the other one. They both say that they're William Shatner's Official Facebook group and both have similar posts, but his photo is on the other one, not this one; however, both are verified. So I sent him a Twitter message, asking if that first one is his or not, and he said that it is.  OK, I thought, then this person I'm talking to must be him or his representative.  So this person asked me if I wanted an autographed photo or T-shirt. I assumed he was asking me to buy one, but he said he would send me one, so I was happy. I thought, wow, Shatner is really going all out, trying to reward his fans and get them to watch his new show and join his fan club. I figured it was just something that they were giving out to people on his Facebook page that had posted nice things, or something...? Who knows.

Anyway, this continued back and forth for a few days and then last night, he left a message for me, saying that there would be a delivery service fee. Well, of course, that set off all of the alarm bells. I figured that this guy is a scam artist/hacker and not Shatner or his rep. I said,  "Hmm...you know this sounds very suspicious, right?" and I sent him a link to a page that talks about how scam artists offer to send you something free and then charge you a "delivery fee."  He denied it, but it was pretty obvious that he is one of those scammers. I was a bit angry.  So I told Shatner about it on Twitter and also emailed his site to let them know about. They confirmed today that it was not Shatner, nor any of his people. Apparently he doesn't use his Messenger, and it's disabled for him. So someone hacked into it. Shatner also posted about it on his Facebook group page and on Twitter.  Too bad no one is sending me an autographed Shatner T-shirt, though!  You'd think it's the least they can do for calling this to their attention. Ah, well.  At least, because of Shatner replying to me on Twitter, it increased my followers! So that's better than nothing.

  Wednesday 1/3/18

Today I was determined not to be so lazy. I woke up around 10:30 and got up. I had some coffee to wake me up (very unusual for me). I have some packets of breakfast casseroleStarbucks peppermint mocha, which is yummy. I use half a package.  So that got me going a little more. I did work on my site and I cooked up a breakfast casserole, which took a while. I wasn't eating breakfast until about 3pm, but still, that's better than waking up around 3!

I managed to feed Brandy and keep track of when she's going out, so far.  We went for our walk around 3:15 and that was nice. It was cold, but not too bad. It's in the 40's today instead of the 30's, thank goodness.

I took a few more Christmas decorations down, and did more work on my site, and watched a lot of TV. Nothing very exciting.

I finally got around to chopping up my veggies this week, to make it easier to make salads...so I've been having salads.

When I was chopping up some veggies, some broccoli fell on the floor, andBrandy with broccoli Brandy grabbed it and ran with it, like it was something she thought that she wasn't supposed to have. I was trying to figure out what it was, to make sure it wasn't something dangerous (because sometimes she will grab a bottle cap or something, and I'm afraid that she'll swallow it).  Then I laughed when I saw what it was. Silly dog. She kept playing with it and chewing on it, not sure whether it was a treat or a toy. Eventually, she gave up and I had to pick up the pieces.

We've been trying to budget for a while. First we set up a baseline budget with some of our regular expenses and then guessing on some of the ones that vary a lot. We did that last Spring but never followed through the next month to compare how much we actually spent with what we had predicted! So we did an updated baseline, and hopefully we will follow though in February!  We're just both so busy, so it's difficult.  We've been planning our finances for the future (something old people do...LOL!).

  Thursday 1/4/18

Starbucks Peppermint MochaI got up a bit later this morning...I was very tired. Turns out it was because I accidentally drank something with gluten. I had some Starbucks Peppermint Mocha in the cupboard that I bought last year.  My SIL had sent me some, and I liked it. I looked it up online and it appeared to be gluten-free. I couldn't test it because I ran out of my NIMA gluten sensor capsules.  So I was sick after I got up. Later, I tested the Starbucks and some other products after I received more capsules in the mail. The Peppermint Mocha is definitely not gluten-free. Bummer!! I need to also test my spices/seasonings. I tried to test the cinnamon, but for some reason, I'm having trouble twisting the capsule shut.  Also, the NIMA needed to be charged, so I plugged it in and I'll try again later.

Anyway, I got up around 1 pm. I spent a lot of time online, and I ate breakfast.  Then I tested some foods and decided to have a cup of the Maxwell House Hazelnut coffee, mixed with some Harry & David Peppermint Hot Chocolate and some of the Swiss Miss no sugar added hot chocolate. It was very good.

temperatureThen I walked Brandy around 4pm. After that, I took some more Christmas decorations down. I hope to do more later tonight.

It was around 50 today, so it wasn't too too cold.

David stopped at the store for me to get some food and a soda, so that was nice.

  Friday 1/5/18

My brother David sent me the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 8 book (large,Buffy book glossy, coffee table book)!  Neat.

I was very sick today, so something else in my house has gluten that I don't know about. Unfortunately, I ran out of NIMA capsules, so I can't test anything else until I get the new ones.  It's a shame I'm not feeling well enough to walk because the weather is very nice outside, I noticed, when I went to get the mail.

David walked the dog for me, since I wasn't feeling up for it. He walks in the evenings after dinner, anyway. We don't usually walk together because he thinks I'm too slow compared to him...but that's fine. I would rather walk when it's light outside, anyway.

It got up to 60 today and then dropped down to the 40's pretty quickly in the afternoon.

Wow, I found a callus on my right index finger and realized that it's from using the TV remote!

I went to bed very early, was SO sleepy.Brandy in car

  Saturday 1/6/18

I got up fairly early and had breakfast.

We went to the store and ran some other errands. In the afternoon, we went to the SAU trail with Brandy.  The weather wasn't bad, and we enjoyed it.

I spent a lot of useless time this week arguing about stupid stuff on Facebook. I try not to, but it seems like I post something really innocuous and then a bunch of people start arguing with me.

I've been trying to spend as much time as I can taking down all of the rest of the Christmas decorations. Almost done!Brandy and me in the car

  Sunday 1/7/18

We went to the SAU trail again... It was drizzly today, and a little chilly, so I wore this knit cap I have, that has a brim like a baseball cap. It both keeps you warm and keeps the rain off your face. We barely made it back to the car before it started to pour! That was very lucky.

I took all of the decorations off the Christmas tree tonight and took the tree apart. I hope to be able to put the rest away tomorrow because we're having the house cleaned on Tuesday. Thentree Wednesday I go back to school!

I had some extra points on Amazon, so I bought a slow cooker. I can't wait to get it!

I had really hoped to do more of my vocal exercises over the break, but that didn't happen. The break just went by way too fast.

This was a pretty boring week. Sorry about that! I've just been trying to catch up on some work on my site, and work around the house etc.  And training Brandy, who is still sometimes peeing on the rug. Hopefully we can get that fixed soon as it's really annoying!
