Latest Post - This Week
Someone called me early this morning (from Texas, of all places), but it didn't ring very long, and they didn't leave a message. I was sleeping and it woke me up. Then I couldn't get back to sleep because of allergies. I had terrible itching. UGH.
I stayed up for awhile and did some more recording of songs. I went back to sleep briefly, and then I had to pick up the dry cleaning when they delivered it downstairs. I finally went back to sleep about 10:30 and slept until after 4pm.
David stopped by the Safeway on the way home to get rotisserie chicken, which we were BOTH craving, but strangely, they were completely out of it. So he just had a sandwich and I had hot dogs.
I feel like I don't want to come back from vacation - is that wrong? :) I'm just feeling so lazy and not wanting to do anything. We didn't even pick up the mail today. Tomorrow I really need to go to the grocery store. We're meeting our friends Tom and Cynthia for lunch at Epic, so that should be fun! They're going out of town and then our other friends, Lena and George, are coming back.
I didn't do too much today, just the laundry and messing around on Facebook etc.
We've been needing to go to the dentist, but we got some new insurance cards in the mail and that now lets us know what insurance we have, finally. I think when we first moved here, we got some cards for it, but we put them away somewhere and forgot about them. At least now we can hopefully go find a local dentist. We're really overdo for cleanings and more.
I'm probably tempting fate, but I haven't seen one insect since we had our place sprayed last week! Woo hoo!
This is the second time that I got a call in the early morning! This time it was an automated call about DISH Network. Apparently we forgot to pay our bill. Oops! (We pay them a small amount every month to keep the DVR's we still have from before we moved) I had the alarm set for 10, but I kept waking up all morning after that. I tried to take a nap later, but I wasn't tired enough.
I met our friends for lunch (David was busy), and we had a good time. We went to Epic, which is a good restaurant. However, they really vary on how well they know what gluten is. I ordered the blackened fish, which I've had many times before. However, I guess the lunch cook is different from the dinner cook because it came with soy sauce on it. I had a few bites before I asked the waiter about it. He replaced it with a regular fish. We also had some great desserts. Tom liked my fish so he ordered some for later, for take-out for dinner. I got sick when I got home, but I have no idea if it was from that or another place I went to. Digestion can take up to 3 days. I have a wheat allergy and also an intolerance, but it depends on which doctor you ask as to what those things mean or what my symptoms mean. It's all very confusing.
My back tooth/gum area on my left side has been bothering me. I seem to have some kind of sore there. I hope it's just from brushing and not anything worse. I guess I have to go to the dentist for sure now.
In the afternoon, I recorded some more songs and listened to some online. In the evening, I went with David to J.J. Dolan's for pizza, and then I got take-out at the place next door, the Tap Room. We just watched TV when we got home. I did a lot of work on my site for the rest of the evening.
I'm reading through the San Diego Comic-Con program online... looking for which TV stars will be there so I can put it up on my site. I see this panel on Sunday:
Saturday night's impressive costuming event is reviewed, audience questions are answered, and a big-screen video of all the costume entries is presented for those who missed the show or who simply want a second look. Hosted by Masquerade coordinator Martin Jaquish and Masquerade assistant John Ruff.
Sunday July 12, 2015 2:30pm - 5:00pm
John is married to my sister-in-law and Martin used to date her, and he's now my duet partner when we go to San Diego and have karaoke (plus he took a class with David). Both good friends. I knew they did that, but it's fun to see their names!
I wish I could go to Comic-Con... well, maybe next year. At least I get to go to two of them here this year, but it's not the same. My brothers started the original San Diego Comic-Con (along with many others) and I know so many people who go. It used to be just this fun comics convention, but now it has all of these Hollywood stars, too! I have to admit that I get kind of sad this time of year because I read all about it online and can't go.
I went to bed too late again, about 4am. I was really tired, but it took me a while to get to sleep. Then I woke up around 11:30. I just stayed at home all day, working and whatnot.
I'm a little worried about my big plant, Seymour. I think he might be almost dead. I have 6 plants and I'm not a great plant-person so I worry if they start to change or turn different colors. I don't know if there was too much water, or not enough, or something else altogether.
DISH network is so funny. You know, when we left Georgia, and came here, I brought my 2 DVR's but I told them that I couldn't use their DISH here (we live in a high rise that won't let use use them). I wanted to hang on to the DVR's so I could copy off the shows on them (plus I have a few external hard drives with shows on them as well, that I had moved over from the DISH DVR's and they're not compatible with computers, only the DISH DVR's). So they said, fine, just pay a small amount each month and we'll pause your account for 9 months. Then I had to remember to phone them and let them know after the 9 months was over to pause us again. I always forget, of course. Then we got a bill saying that we owed them some money (we forgot to pay) and then today they sent me an empty box, presumably to send one of my DVR boxes back. So I phoned and it turns out, my account is now "disconnected" (which of course is a silly word since we've been disconnected for 2 years!) and so I don't have to pay anything. They said, if we ever sign up again to DISH, we just have to pay $50 to connect again. Hopefully the woman I talked to was right about that. But here's the weird thing, if that was an option, why didn't they just tell me that two years ago? Were they just trying to make me keep paying? Or did they change something in their policy in the meantime? It's very odd.
We sent our info in via the post office to apply for our passports. David got his, but I didn't get mine. WTF? Hopefully I will get it soon...
I'm so tired of arguing with idiots and racists online. Mostly on Facebook. A lot of them are not even my Facebook friends (they're friends of friends) and most of them are not real life friends, either. So in the past few weeks I've argued with people who think the media is too hard on Donald Trump for his racist comments; that our country is based on the 10 commandments; that gays shouldn't get married; that the Confederate flag is not a racist symbol; and that the 7 black churches that burned down in the past 2 weeks since the shooting (mostly in the South) were fires started by lightening, not man. Come on! What is wrong with people? UGH. I'm just really tired of the stupidity, ignorance, arrogance and hatred. Worse is the people who are reasonable about one issue and not about another, and they don't see the hypocrisy there. Here's a tip: If you use the phrase "politically correct" then you're probably being an idiot and possibly a racist. Hey, I'm entitled to my point of view, too!
We went to Murphy's for dinner. I had their pork chop special. The less said the better about that. I stopped at Wal-mart on the way home and got some stuff.
It's very humid today. That's probably not the last time I'll say that! LOL!
I stayed up way too late and then my neck was hurting. I was supposed to go to physical therapy for my spine, but I was SO tired that I canceled it. I just make poor decisions when I'm that tired. I should have gone anyway. Ah, well.
I woke up around 12:15. David had to run an errand with the car, so he stopped in. We went over to the ATM and then I got lunch at this place called Döner Shack. I always love their salads, but I don't often go there because they only take cash. I was going to try the new Thai place next door, but they were closed already! Apparently they run out of food and then just close. That's so weird... but common here from what I could tell. I don't understand it. If you keep running out of food, then how about making more?
Looks like we're going to Hatsuhana tonight, the Japanese restaurant we like at the Hilton Hawaiian.
I was sick again in the afternoon....SIGH! I really hate cooking and love eating out, but I guess I should only eat food I cook myself, for the most part.
I finally joined Instagram...not really sure of the point of it, though, still! Maybe I'm just too old to understand :) You don't have to be a member, though, to see my photos there so check 'em outl
You know what else I'm tired of? Programs, especially Firefox, freezing up on my computer! Grrr!
Today DISH Network sent me a second box! LOL!
We went out to dinner at Hatsuhana, which is in the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We both enjoy it. I was taking lots of photos while it was still light out, and posting them on Instagram. It was a nice evening but always too short! David has tomorrow off, for Independence Day.
I was learning a song but had to stop because it hit 10pm. We have annoying building rules about not making "noise" after 10.
I've been having a sore throat all evening... I hope it's not another cold! That's all I need. I feel like such a hypochondriac sometimes, but the darned allergies just always make me worried and give me ear infections et al. My temperature is 99, which is high for me, but not really a fever. Still I keep having it, despite the Aleve and aspirin.
I'm trying to go through my emails and delete some etc. I have two different Gmail accounts and have over 5,000 emails altogether. One of the accounts is older and goes back to 2007, so Gmail is telling me I'm running out of space! So that's the one I'm trying to delete unimportant stuff from. I like to archive the older stuff if possible in case I need it later. What a pain!
I tried to go to bed a little early...I was very tired... but I kept coughing and waking. So I got up and watched TV and worked more. I didn't get to bed until about 4 am again.
I canceled my dentist appointment today because the sore in my mouth is all better. I have one for next Wednesday, though, for a cleaning.
David woke me up for lunch and I was SO tired, didn't want to get up. We walked over to Hooter's. I had their chicken salad. We stopped at Murphy's, and I got some sorbet. It's just SO hot out today. Yesterday we had pretty nice weather. Ah, well.
We napped a little, and then we walked to karaoke. It's about 2 miles. We stopped at Sakura Terrace, on the way, for dinner, a place we'd tried before and liked, but it was not nearly as good this time. The karaoke place, Blue Ribbon Bar & Grill, lets you sing a bunch of songs at once, so it was quite a while before I got to sing. It was fun, though, and I enjoyed it a lot. There were many nice people there, as usual!
I stayed up pretty late after that.
Sometimes I get so busy, especially on the weekends, that I forget to update my blog! I've been taking a lot of photos this week for Instagram.
We went to Zippy's for breakfast, like we often do on the weekend. We walked around a bit after that. We didn't really do much to celebrate the 4th of July. I would have liked to have seen fireworks, but there were none nearby. They have them down on Waikiki if you want to fight to grab some space to see them, along with the 50,000 other people that were expected to be there! There were a few other parts of the island, all farther away, that had them as well. I was surprised that I didn't hear any fireworks at all, since we live right in Chinatown...but I guess the immigrants there don't really care about the holiday.
We went to Gordon Biersch for dinner. The sun was going down and it was very pretty. They do have a dinner cruise you can take, and they go out to Waikiki so you can view the fireworks from there...if you want to pay a few hundred dollars! But it's silly because they show fireworks down on Waikiki every Friday night, anyway... We also stopped at this other place called Smith & Kings. We'd been in there only once before, when it was called something else. We might have to go back sometime for dinner. We had some good drinks there.
I spent some time recording some songs, but otherwise I just worked on my site and we watched TV. Nothing too exciting.
I got up pretty early, about 9:30. First we went to the grocery store. Then we went to lunch at this Chinese restaurant across the street. We'd only gone there once before, after we first moved here, and then just never got around to going back, even though it was pretty good. They didn't have too much that I could eat, so I just had some fried rice with chicken. It wasn't bad. Then we did some more walking around.
I wasn't feeling great after that with the usual problems, so I took a long nap, and I shouldn't have. It was also pretty hot.
In the evening, we went to Downbeat for dinner as usual. I've just been doing a lot of work on my site.
I still haven't gotten my passport in the mail. Hopefully I will this week!
I forgot to mention that I lost my clip-on sunglasses that I'd had for quite a while (I think I lost them while we were in San Diego). I went to Wal-Mart and got some new ones there that I really like. They aren't as dark as I usually get, but they really do a great job of keeping out the sun and glare. They don't look as ugly as my old ones did, either. You can barely tell that they're clip-ons, which is great.
Friday a plumber is coming to fix some problems (nothing I care about, just a routine thing they do here in the building), so I have to be home all day, and the water will be off.
Our landlord is raising our rent, but at least he's going to let us renew our lease for a year, I guess, which is good. We hate moving and didn't want to have to do it again.
A few weeks ago, I bought David a Samsung tablet for his birthday so he could use it, since his old laptop is very slow. He doesn't really like it, but I think eventually he'll warm to it. Anyway, for now I'm using it to watch movies and such. I was able to watch some PBS shows from their press site tonight, so that was handy. Otherwise it's hard for me to watch anything online because then I can't work while I watch. I wasn't able to get the FOX press site to work on it, unfortunately. I ordered a case for it (which is also a stand), but it hasn't arrived yet. I couldn't find one locally as it's larger than most tablets nowadays. I wanted a fairly large one to watch TV shows and movies on. I have a Kindle that's about 7" and I'm not too fond of the size.
I hope you had a great Independence Day (or Canada Day as my friends celebrated last week)! Have a great week, too.
Don't forget to also check out my TV Blog! Both are updated about once a week.
